A Kansas City man has been charged in the June 2019 murder of Brooklyn Lindsey, 32, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Marcus Lewis, 41, faces one count of the A Felony Murder in the 2nd Degree, one count of the Unclassified Felony of Armed Criminal Action, and one count of the D Felony Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.*
According to Court records, on the morning of June 25, 2019, officers were dispatched to 612 Spruce on a reported dead body. The victim, Brooklyn Lindsey (identified in court documents as Christopher Lindsey) appeared to have suffered from multiple gunshot wounds. Five 9mm shell casings were collected from around the victim’s body. The Jackson County Medical Examiner ruled her cause of death as Homicide.
DNA testing of the shell casings revealed an investigative lead to the Defendant. Defendant was arrested on a stop order for an investigation into separate charges of Aggravated Domestic Violence Assault and Armed Business Robbery. The defendant, when confronted with the DNA evidence form the shell casing, admitted to shooting Brooklyn Lindsey. The defendant stated on the morning of the shooting, he observed the victim walking on Independence Avenue. He further stated the victim approached the defendant, who was in his car. The defendant stated he got out of his car and attempted to walk away; shortly thereafter a physical altercation occurred between the victim and the defendant. The defendant stated he and the victim fell to the ground fighting. Defendant stated as he was escaping the victim’s grasp, he pulled out his gun, shot the victim, and fled the scene. Defendant described the firearm as a 9mm handgun with a black grip and silver slide while acknowledging he was a felon and not allowed to possess a firearm.
Prosecutors have requested a $250,000.00 cash bond.
