A 45-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man has been convicted by a Jackson County jury of Property Damage First Degree and felony Animal Abuse, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
A Jackson County jury today found Lonnie V. Mitchell, dob: 6/15/1972, guilty of Property Damage 1st Degree and felony Animal Abuse for damaging a house in the 5500 block of Woodland in June 2016 and for killing a pet turtle, called "Seymour" by family members.
Mitchell will be sentenced in September. Both the property damage conviction and the animal abuse conviction are Class D felonies, punishable by a sentence of up to four years in prison.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Kristin Ries and Allison Kleinow prosecuted the case on behalf of the state of Missouri.
