An inmate in Jackson County Detention Center was charged today in connection with an assault of a corrections officer, now suffering a variety of injuries in critical condition, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Johnny R. Dunlap, dob: 7/21/1997, faces Assault 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records filed today, Dunlap was in Pod C of the Jackson County Detention Center building at 1300 Cherry late Wednesday when he assaulted a corrections officer while he was on duty. The officer was listed in critical condition after suffering injuries, including fractured facial and nasal bones. Surveillance video and witness statements revealed the defendant assaulted the corrections officer with a variety of items, including a plastic cone, for several minutes. The victim was unconscious for much of the assault.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000. The charges carry a punishment of up to life in prison.
