A Raymore, MO, man has been charged in the March 30, 2018, fatal shooting in Kansas City of Virgil Marshall, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Damyon D. Cook, dob: 12/23/1998, faces Murder 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records filed today, Kansas City Police Department officers responded to 2000 E. 30th Street in regard to gun shots. Officers found the victim, later identified as Virgil Marshall. The victim told police that the person in a brown Jeep "shot me." The vehicle was observed fleeing from the scene at a high rate of speed.Officers pursued the vehicle and the defendant caused multiple traffic collisions, driving in lanes of oncoming traffic and nearly striking a police vehicle. The defendant fled on foot from officers until he was taken into custody near 26th and Indiana.One witness told police that the defendant and victim were upset and fighting after the defendant revealed he had a gun in his waistband. The victim and defendant agreed to stop fighting and the victim handed the defendant back a gun that the victim had taken from the defendant. The victim turned to walk away. The defendant raised the gun and shot the victim in the back.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000 cash.
