A 34-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting on Sunday of his wife, Anna Velasquez, inside their Kansas City residence, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Carlos Velazquez, dob: 11/24/1985, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records filed today, Kansas City police were dispatched Sunday evening to the 3700 block of East 7th Street in Kansas City on a reported shooting. Officers found the victim, Anna Velazquez and the wife of the defendant, shot to death in an upstairs bedroom. Multiple shell casings were in the room with the victim’s body. The defendant’s father, who lives next door to residence where the shooting occurred, told police that the defendant told him he shot the victim. The defendant told police that he didn’t recall shooting the victim, but he spontaneously uttered to police responding to the call at his residence, "my wife is dying. It was an accident." Two juveniles were located in the home, safe in their beds.
Prosecutors requested a cash-only bond of $300,000.
