A Kansas City juvenile has been charged in a February 2022 fatal shooting in Independence of another youth after an alleged gun exchange was set up among them, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Marquis A Henderson, dob: 5/27/2004, faces Murder 2nd Degree, Robbery 1st Degree and two counts of Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records, on February 8, 2022, Independence Police were dispatched to the 3300 block of S. Sterling Avenue in Independence on a shooting. Officers found a juvenile male, age 17, in the breezeway of the apartments. A witness told police the victim was meeting someone to trade a rife for handguns. But shortly after the victim handed the rifle to the defendant, the defendant pulled a handgun from his waistband and began shooting. Two other males were with the defendant. A check of social media showed defendant involved in setting up the gun trade on the dates of the shooting.
The defendant was certified on June 8, 2022 by Family Court to stand trial as an adult.
A 250,000 secured bond has been set.
