A 22-year-old Independence man has been charged in connection with killing another driver Wednesday after he shot into a vehicle and fled that scene at a high rate of speed, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Da’qon J. Sipple, dob: 5/13/1998, faces Murder 2nd Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records filed today, Independence police responded to the area of the 800 block of North Emery in Independence on Wednesday afternoon. The defendant, the victim stated, had fled the scene at a high rate of speed on U.S. 24 Highway after he shot into a vehicle. Near 24 Highway and Sterling, the defendant’s vehicle ran a red light and struck a southbound vehicle and killed the driver, Mari McElyea. The woman shot at by the defendant in the area of North Emery identified the defendant as the person who shot into her vehicle, then fled.
Prosecutors requested a $250,000/10 percent bond.
