A 32-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in connection with rape, thefts of vehicles and a police chase that ended Monday when he was arrested in Wyandotte County, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Ricardo D. Staley, dob: 4/4/1984, faces Rape or Attempted Rape in the 1st Degree, Sodomy in the First Degree, two counts of Tampering with a Motor Vehicle in the 1st Degree and Resisting Arrest.*
According to court records, Kansas City police responded on June 17 to a reported rape. The victim told police that Staley had told her to submit to him or he would kill her and told her he'd be back to rape her again. In addition, Staley approached another woman at a local retail store, took a woman's purse and used her keys to leave in her minivan. The following day, another female victim told police he took her car, then eluded police, failing to stop for them until he was in Kansas City, Kan. During the pursuit, he drove at high speeds and with reckless abandon until he was taken into custody after he drove down a dead end street in Kansas City, Kan.
Prosecutors have requested a bond of $100,000 cash.
