A man who attempted to rob the Restaurant Depot in the west bottoms area of Kansas City early Monday and was shot by a security guard now faces felony charges, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Jerome L. Theus, 26 (dob: 10/21/1989), faces Attempted Robbery in the 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records, the manager of the Restaurant Dept and a security guard saw the defendant walking into the business with his face covered and pointing a silver handgun at them. The guard unholstered his weapon and Theus ran out of the business. As he was running, Theus pointed his gun at the guard, who shot several times and struck Theus. The defendant continued to run until he was apprehended by officers, who recovered the silver handgun that was loaded and reported stolen.
Prosecutors have requested a bond of $75,000.
