Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker was among an impressive group of University of Missouri-Kansas City alumni who were honored last week with 2016 Alumni Achievement Awards.
Baker, who has served as Jackson County Prosecutor since 2011, was named by the School of Law, where she graduated with her law degree in 1998. Baker was cited for her role in establishing the Kansas City No Violence Alliance, a collaboration of law enforcement and community leaders focusing on violence reduction, and for her work in defending vulnerable children at risk of abuse.
Other honorees included Alexander Garza, who was chief medical officer for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security from 2009-13, and Judy G. Jacobs, a survivor of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp as a child, who earned at UMKC an MBA in finance and a PH.D. in higher education administration.
