The day before he was arrested for a fatal shooting near 31st and Van Brunt in Kansas City, a man shot another victim near 39th and Troost after they had an encounter earlier in Gillham Park, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
In that second shooting, Albert Mangini, dob: 12/11/1978, faces Assault 1st Degree, Attempted Robbery 1st Degree and two counts of Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court documents, Kansas City police officers were dispatched on July 7, in the evening, to 39th and Paseo on a reported shooting. They found the victim, who had been shot in the stomach, and he was transferred to a hospital for treatment. They later learned the bullet had lacerated his liver. Once he was able to speak to police, the victim told them he had been playing soccer at 41st and Gillham, when he saw a man later identified as the defendant preparing to steal his bag. They began to fight over the bag. A gun fell out of the defendant's waistband; the defendant picked it up and fired a shot at the victim. Later, the victim was walking home when he re-encountered the defendant at 39th and Troost Avenue. The defendant shot the victim one time in the abdomen and fled from the scene. A city camera captured the incident on video. The defendant was arrested the next day regarding a separate fatal shooting at 31st and Van Brunt Blvd.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $350,000 cash.
