A Kansas City 17-year-old faces felony charges in the fatal shooting of Maruice Brown in September 2022 as Brown was walking along street near 30th and Montgall, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Marlando Martin-Hoskins, dob: 6/1/2005, faces Murder 2nd Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and two Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records, Kansas City police offices responded to the area of 30th and Montgall on a report of gunshots. Officers found Maurice Brown on the sidewalk at 30th and Montgall. He was deceased from a gunshot wound. A witness told police a vehicle was going the wrong way on 30th Street when a man got out of the vehicle, looked south, then got back in the vehicle. The person fired a gunshot from the vehicle. Video surveillance identified the vehicle. Police interviewed the occupants, who indicated the suspect shot an AR-15 style rifle. He goes by the name "Lando." The suspect, with his family present, told police that he shot at the man after they left a restaurant at 31st and Prospect.
The defendant was recently certified in Family Court to stand trial as an adult.
