A Kansas City man faces felony charges, including abandonment of a corpse, in connection with the Jan. 17 fatal shooting of Brenda Vera, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Eric B. Marquez, dob: 10/27/1991, faces Abandonment of a Corpse and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.*
According to court records, KansaS City police responded on Jan. 17 on a reported shooting not the 2500 block of Lister Avenue and found the victim, shot fatally, inside a vehicle. a bondsman at the scene state the suspect was inside a residence and may be armed. Officers set up a perimeter around the residence and initiated an Operation 100. The suspect's family agreed to make statements. The suspect was not found inside. Witnesses told police that Marquez had stated he accidentally shot the victim during an incident with another driver.
Marquez, who is a convicted felon, is not in custody. Anyone with information should contact the TIPS Hotline, (816) 474-TIPS.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $100,000.
