A 31-year-old Independence man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting last week of Christopher Cropp, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
David W. Worlledge, dob: 5/29/1987, faces Murder 2nd Degree, Armed Criminal Action and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.*
According to court records filed today, Kansas City police were dispatched to the 7000 block of Askew Avenue in Kansas City on Aug. 29, 2018. They found the victim at the residence suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital where he died. The Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide caused by the gunshots. A witness told police the victim had been on the front porch when a vehicle arrived. The occupants of the vehicle and the victim argued on the front lawn. A rear passenger pointed a gun at the victim and fired causing the victim to fall to the ground. The shooter left with an unknown driver. Police tracked the vehicle. Another witness to the shooting told police the defendant was armed with a 9 mm handgun and wanted to retrieve personal belongings from the victim. The witness saw the defendant shoot the victim.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000 cash.
