A Jackson County judge on Tuesday sentenced a 34-year-old Kansas City man to 17 years in prison after he pleaded guilty in the June 2021 fatal shooting of Andrea Dean inside a Kansas City residence, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Christopher L. Spears, dob: 1/1/1988, was sentenced to 14 years and 3 years after he was convicted of Voluntary Manslaughter and Armed Criminal Action. The judge set the sentences to run consecutively.
According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched the 4300 block of E. Linwood Blvd on a reported shooting. They found three juveniles in the residence who stated their mom and dad had been arguing when their dad, later identified as the defendant, shot their mom. Police found the victim deceased at the scene. The defendant went to a Kansas City fire station and told them he had killed the mother of his children and he turned over a weapon. He stated to police that he and the victim had argued and tussled over a gun, when the gun went off. Then he stated he shot her in the head.
