A Kansas City man and woman have been charged in connection with the stabbing on Monday of an 18-month old boy apparently after their vehicle was involved in an accident and in fleeing police, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Anthony N. Beighley-Beck, dob: 11/13/1997, faces Assault 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges, while Tabatha S. Ong faces Endangering the Welfare of a Child.*
According to court records, Blue Springs police responded April 18, 2022, to the area of Highway 7 and U.S. 40 highway on a reported traffic accident. An officer observed a Chevrolet Cobat with a flattened tire driving on the wheel, creating a danger. He pursued the vehicle at high speeds until police stopped them. They saw Beighley-Beck holding a small child. Officers also observed a screaming child, less than 2 years old, who had a large open wound. Beighley-Beck told police he stabbed the child after the vehicle was stopped by police. Police later obtained a search warrant and found in the vehicle a knife that appeared to be bloody.
Prosecutors requested Beighley-Beck be held on no bond, while prosecutors requested a $50,000/10 percent bond for Ong.
