A 36-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting on Wednesday evening of Darren E Marshall, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Eric Thomas, dob: 12/7/1983, faces Murder 2nd Degree, Armed Criminal Action, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Resisting Arrest.*
According to court records, Kansas City police responded to the area of 27th and Chestnut after the sounds of gun fire were heard by police and residents. Police found the deceased victim in the 2700 block of 27th Street. Police were alerted to look for a suspect vehicle, a green Pontiac. When they spotted that vehicle. Its driver attempted to elude police, traveling at a high rate of speed and disregarding traffic controls. When stopped, the driver, later determined to be the defendant, spontaneously uttered, "Somebody shoot at me, I’m shooting back."
Prosecutors requested a $150,000 bond.
