A Kansas City man, 29, faces nine felony counts today in connection with the fatal shooting of Sheybeon Wyatt-Thompson and the injuring of others on Sept. 11, 2021, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today..
Roy L. Broadus, dob: 1/3//1992, faces Murder 2nd Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, three counts of Assault 1st Degree and four counts of Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched on the evening of Sept. 11, 2021, to the area of 67th and Manchester Avenue on a reported shooting. They quickly identified a vehicle near Gregory Blvd and Elmwood that had been linked to the shooting. The vehicle ultimately stopped at Research Medical Center, where the fatal shooting victim, Sheybeon Wyatt-Thompson, was pronounced deceased from a gunshot wound. Thompson was a passenger in the suspect vehicle. Witnesses to the shooting near 67th and Manchester said they had been outside when the vehicle drove by them at a high rate of speed, swerving and clipping a parked vehicle before it stopped and the driver exited the vehicle and fired shots at them. Some of them returned fire. Detectives found the defendant's driver's license in the suspect vehicle.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000 cash. The defendant was taken into custody today.
