An 18-year-old Kansas City man has been charged with assault on a law enforcement officer for pulling a gun on a Kansas City Police Department officer on Saturday, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced tonight.
Jamil Jackson, dob: 4/10/1998, faces Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer in the 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records, an officer stated he pulled into the area of 72nd and Wabash Avenue, where a large crowd had gathered. An officer said he observed the defendant with a handgun. The officer told him to show his hands. But the defendant reached into his pocket and began to raise the handgun toward the officer. The officer fired two shots, hitting the defendant in the abdomen.
Prosecutors have requested a bond of $50,000.
