A 25-year-old Independence man has been charged in the Wednesday morning robbery of a car that the owner had left running at an air pump, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Sean A. Clark, dob: 11/29/1990, faces Robbery in the 2nd Degree.*
According to court records, the victim, a woman, was at the air pump station at a Quick Trip in Independence. The car was running and her door was ajar as she was putting air in her right front tire. Then she heard the door shut, stood up and saw the man later identified as Clark get in behind the driver's wheel. The defendant backed up the car and knocked the victim to the ground. She hit her head and he drove the car over her foot.
Independence police, according to court records, released a video of the defendant and Blue Springs police found the stolen auto in a Blue Springs neighborhood. The defendant was found at a Blue Springs motel. The defendant told police he took the vehicle but said he did not see the victim on the side of the vehicle.
Prosecutors have requested a $50,000 bond.
