A Kansas City man charged in connection with the stabbing in April 2022 of an 18-month old boy apparently after a vehicular accident has been sentenced to 18 years in prison, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
On Monday, Anthony N. Beighley-Beck, dob: 11/13/1997, pleaded guilty to Child Abuse and Child Endangerment. As part of the plea, a Jackson County judge sentnced him to 13 years on the Child Abuse conviction and 5 years for Child Endangerment for a total prison sentence of 18 years.
According to court records, Blue Springs police responded April 18, 2022, to the area of Highway 7 and U.S. 40 highway on a reported traffic accident. An officer observed a Chevrolet Cobat with a flattened tire driving on the wheel, creating a danger. He pursued the vehicle at high speeds until police stopped them. They saw Beighley-Beck holding a child, less than 2 years old, who was later found to have a large open wound. Beighley-Beck told police he stabbed the child after the vehicle was stopped by police. Police later obtained a search warrant and found in the vehicle a knife that appeared to be bloody.
A criminal case remains against a co-defendant.
