A Kansas City man, 18, faces the felony charge of fleeing from police in Independence on Sunday evening before he was involved in a head-on collision in Kansas City that injured several people, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Dennis J. Mead III, dob: 2/15/1999, faces felony charge of Resisting A Lawful Stop.*
According to court documents filed today, Independence police attempted to stop the driver, defendant Dennis Mead, in the parking lot of a motel on U.S. 40 Highway in Independence. The defendant fled at high speeds, ignoring traffic signals until he crossed the center line on Blue Parkway near Eastwood Trafficway and collided head-on with another vehicle. Five persons were transported to area hospitals. The defendant's vehicle was reportedly stolen.
The case remains under investigation.
Prosecutors have requested a bond of $150,000.
