A 21-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in the Feb. 5, 2018, shooting in a park near 44th and South Benton, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Rathell Q. Ross, dob: 10/10/1996, faces Assault 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records, Kansas City Police Department officers were dispatched to a park at 44th and South Benton on a reported shooting. Six or seven shots were were heard and the victim was lying in the park. Suspects ran from the scene. Video surveillance showed showed two men met with another man, the victim, on the side of the basketball court. The defendant was arrested nearby on a probation violation and municipal warrants. The victim identified the defendant as one of his shooters. The victim was being treated for multiple gunshot wounds.
The case remains under investigation.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $100,000 cash.
