An Independence man faces Murder 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges in connection with the murder earlier today of Teddis A. Burns-El, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
William M. Miller-Kirkland, dob: 6/17/1991, faces Murder 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records filed today, witnesses told Independence, MO, police that the defendant went to a residence in the 1400 block of N. Osage Street in Independence and shot the victim several times before he left the residence. The defendant's mother stated that she tried to get the gun from him after he arrived at the residence on Osage Street. Then the defendant fired, striking the victim in the arm. The victim fell to the ground. The defendant then stood over the victim and fired multiple shots at him. Then the defendant left the residence. Police found 14 spend shell casings at the residence. After the shooting, police stopped the defendant in a vehicle; he initially refused to stop. Once stopped, he refused to cooperate and told officers to shoot him.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000.
