A Jackson County judge sentenced a Sugar Creek man, 30 , to 20 years in prison for a 2021 knife attack of a woman in an Independence public park, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
The defendant Ronald L. Thompson, dob: 9/1/1992, pleaded guilty to Assault 1st Degree as part of a plea agreement. The judge sentenced the defendant to 20 years in prison on the Assault 1st conviciton.
According to court records, Independence police responded on Dec. 23, 2021 to Mill Creek park on N. River Blvd. in Independence after a caller to police dispatch reported a woman was screaming for help in the park. The woman was saying she had been stabbed. An officer located the woman who had suffered cuts and a laceration to her neck. She named her attacker.
