A Kansas City man has been charged in the Sunday night fatal shooting near 39th and Denver, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
MarKivius C. Woods, dob: 5/31/1993, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records filed today, Kansas City police were dispatched early Sunday to the 3900 block of Denver on a report shooting. They found shell casings in the area. The victim had been shot and was later pronounced dead at an area hospital. MarKivius Woods told police he went to the house to see his baby. He was in an encounter with the victim, who lunged at him and a bag that contained his gun. He pulled the weapon out and fired a "warning shot" at the victim and wasn't sure if he hit him. The victim lunged at him twice more and he fired at him twice more. He said he took off running and didn't mean to kill him.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000.
