A Jackson County judge sentenced Danzel Reese today to 20 years in prison for the 2010 fatal shooting of Lance W. Rutter during a robbery in the 3800 block of Baltimore in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
A Jackson County convicted Reese, dob: 2/16/1992, of two felony counts, Involuntary Manslaughter and Robbery in the 1st Degree. On Thursday, a judge sentenced Reese to 7 years on the manslaughter conviction and 20 years on the robbery. The sentences were set to run concurrently.
Witnesses told police, according to court records, that Rutter and another man were on the front porch of a residence in the 3800 block of Baltimore when twp armed men approached them and demanded money One man handed the suspect his wallet and the suspect ran away. Rutter, though, argued with one of the armed suspects and the suspect shot the victim. The man who handed over his wallet stayed with Rutter until he was transported by ambulance to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Jamie Hunt and Caitlin Brock prosecuted the case on behalf of the state of Missouri.
