A Kansas City man, 21, faces six felony charges related to a domestic violence incident in Kansas City that was followed by him turning himself into police on Thursday, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Markelv A. Avery, dob: 10/06/2001, faces Domestic Assault 3rd Degree, Assault 3rd Degree, two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon and two counts of Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records, on Jan. 13, 2023, officers were dispatched to the area of Belmont and Gladstone Boulevard in Kansas City. A witness said the defendant had had threatened the victim with a gun and had choked and assaulted her. Later the defendant turned himself into police after a reported child abduction.
Any charges related to the child abduction remain under investigation.
