A Grandview man, 22, has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Chieyene Wallis on July 24, 2020, in KC, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
MIchael P. Skinner, dob: 5/28/1998, faces Murder 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records released today, Kansas City police were dispatched on the morning of July 24, 2020, to the Cloverleaf Apartments and found the victim, Chieyene Wallis, suffering from from gunshots and outside the apartment complex in the grass. She was pronounced deceased later at the hospital. A witness told police she had allowed the victim to stay at her apartment. The witness stated the victim had been in the apartment that morning and the defendant was with her. Later, she heard the victim screaming for help. Skinner became irate and told the victim she was going to die. He pointed guns at her and she tried to get away from the defendant. He punched her and pistol whipped her. The victim ran from the apartment, the witness stated, and the defendant followed her. The witness heard two gunshots. And her children said the defendant had killed the victim. Another witness reported seeing the defendant shoot the victim just outside the front door of the apartment building. Video surveillance showed the victim run out of the building, collapse on the ground just before an extended arm is shown pointed a handgun at her head. The gun recoils after it was fired.
Charging documents in this case were filed earlier this month and unsealed this weekend.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $500,000 cash.
