An Independence 19-year-old has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old victim in an Independence residence, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Elijah L. Soliz, dob: 3/28/2002, faces Involuntary Manslaughter 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records filed today, Independence police were dispatched on Dec. 11, 2021, to the 600 block of N. Westwood on a reported shooting. Officers found a 15-year-old gunshot victim at the scene, as well as others, including the defendant. A witness told police that the defendant had pointed the gun at the victim's head for 30 to 45 seconds before the gun fired.
Prosecutors requested a $10,000 secured bond.
