A 31-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in connection to the fatal shooting on Nov. 15, 2019, of Gerald D. Berry in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Jhermeil R. Taylor, dob: 10/10/1988, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records, police were dispatched shortly before midnight on Nov. 15, 2019, to the 7500 block of East 87th Street, where they found a man lying in the parking lot of a liquuor store. He had been shot. His death was later confirmed as a homicide. Surveillance video from the store showed a man in a yellow sweatshirt, later identified as the defendant, in an argument with another man. The victim is seen raising his hand to diffuse the situation, then he throws a punch at the defendant. The defendant then pulls a gun and shoots the victim. As the defendant runs away, the victim pulls a handgun and fires toward the defendant, who fires more shots at the victim before he drives away. A witness told police the defendant was threatening everyone and the victim was trying to calm the situation.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000 cash.
