For Immediate Release
Oct. 4, 2018
U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill will address the 150th class of Jackson County Drug Court graduates at noon on Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, in a special ceremony at the Jackson County Courthouse in Kansas City.
McCaskill was instrumental in creating the drug court in Jackson County in the early 1990s when she was prosecutor here. At that time, Jackson County's Drug Court was among the first in the nation. McCaskill has remained a strong advocate for such programs, which provide treatment for people in recovery from addiction rather than incarceration for people facing non-violent drug offenses.
Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker will host Monday's special graduation ceremony, which will be held in the Legislative Chamber, 2nd floor, of the Jackson County Courthouse in Downtown Kansas City. The event begins at noon.
Media are welcome to photograph the event, but please ask drug court graduates for permission to photograph or identify them.
