A 38-year-old Kansas City woman has been charged in connection with the fatal stabbing in September 2018 of Ashley Thomas while she sat on the defendant's front porch, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Tanishia N. Shannon, dob: 10/24/1980, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records, the defendant and victim, Ashley Thomas, were in a verbal and physical altercation at the defendant's home in the 6600 block of Indiana Avenue in Kansas City. Police later found the victim suffering from a puncture wound. A witness told police the victim came out of the house after the altercation with the defendant. She sat on the porch for about 5 minutes when the defendant came out and stabbed her while the victim was seated. The defendant told police she was yelling at the victim through a closed screen door calling her a "broke ass bitch."
Prosecutors have requested a $50,000 cash bond. The defendant was this week taken into custody.
