A 28-year-old Oak Grove man has been charged in connection with the fatal beating of a Kansas City man in mid-September 2019 , Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
David Z. Haynie, dob: 1/22/1992, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records, the morning of Sept. 16, 2019, Kansas City police were dispatched to the 9100 block of East 43rd Terrace. The victim, Darryle J. Humbird appeared to have been beaten to death. Police found at the crime scene a rock with what appeared to be blood on it. The Jackson County Medical Examiner later ruled the death a homicide and the cause was blunt force trauma. DNA tests of the rock found the victim’s DNA on it, as well as the defendant’s. The defendant’s wife told police detectives the defendant had cash and drugs after the homicide that he didn’t have before. She also acknowledged using the victim’s credit card after the homicide but said she wasn’t at the crime scene. Other witnesses told police they heard the defendant’s wife say she and the defendant had gone to rob the victim and the defendant beat the victim to death with a rock.
Prosecutors requested a cash-only bond of $200,000.
