A homeless Kansas City man pleaded guilty Monday to the fatal stabbing of Roderick Browning-Torrence in November 2017, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Sonny R. Scott, dob: 6/16/1977, pleaded guilty to Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action. Scott was sentenced Monday by a Jackson County judge to 30 years on each conviction, with sentences to run concurrently.
According to court records, police were called to a business near 9th and Prospect Avenue in the Northeast area of Kansas City. The victim, unresponsive and suffering from stab wounds, was found and later identified as Roderick Browning-Torrence, dob: 12/23/1965. Video surveillance from an area business showed the defendant repeatedly stabbiing the victim and removing items from the victim. Police apprehended the suspect in an unoccupied building on Truman Road.
