A 28-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in the August 3, 2020, fatal shooting of Antony Taylor near 46th and Indiana in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Michael L. Finnell, dob: 12/12/1992, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records, Kansas city police on Aug. 3, 2020 found a BMW sedan crashed into a building in the 4900 block of Swope Parkway. The victim, in the driver's seat, was the sole person in the vehicle. He had suffered a single gunshot and other bullet holes were observed in the victim's exterior. Video surveillance showed the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Benton Boulevard. Kansas City police detectives found multiple spent shell casings at 46th and Indiana Avenue, as well as firearm component. Detectives reviewed extensive amounts of video from that evening, including video from a city bus, that established that the victim and suspect had an altercation in front of a residence in the 4400 block of Indiana. Video also showed the suspect's vehicle and license plate that connected him to the shooting. In addition, the defendant's DNA matching the defendant's was found on the firearm component found at the crime scene.
The defendant was taken into custody on Wednesday during a traffic stop..
