A Kansas City man, 27, has been charged in connection with fleeing police and an assault of a law enforcement officer this week, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced tonight.
Jaye Mathis, dob: 8/25/1991, faces Assault 2nd Degree, Armed Criminal Action and Resisting a Lawful Stop.*
According to court records filed today, Kansas City police officer in south Kansas City sought to stop a vehicle at a convenience store after a check of the license plate came back as stolen. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the defendant reversed speed on the vehicle, striking the officer with the vehicle's door and throwing the officer into the gas pumps. The defendant then fled the scene at a high rate of speed and was eventually taken into custody in Prairie Village, Kan.
Prosecutors requested a $75,000 bond.
