A 24-year-old Kansas City North man has been charged in the fatal shooting on Sept. 28, 2021 of Wyshaud Smith, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Corey Marrett, dob: 5/27/1997, faces Murder 2nd Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and two counts of Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records, the defendant drove down to a tow lot where a family member and Smith had been in a dispute. The defendant's vehicle is captured on LPR and surveillance footage pulling up next to victim’s vehicle before the victim’s car pulls forward and crashes into a pole. Victim was shot behind his left ear. Defendant’s phone also shows him to be in the area at the time of the shooting.
Prosecutors requested a $250,000 bond.
