A 34-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in an assault that caused serious physical injury to another man found unconscious Monday in the back seat of a parked vehicle, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Craig A. Sutton, dob: 9/13/1981, faces Assault in the 1st Degree.*
According to court records, the victim was found in the back of a running vehicle, parked with its emergency lights on on Monday. The back of the vehicle was heavily saturated in blood. Medical personnel responding to the scene indicated the victim's injuries might result in his death and he was unconscious. Police found a woman with whom the victim had been in a relationship and searched a residence, finding a positive response for blood in several locations. A woman told police that the victim had been at a residence when Sutton arrived and forced his way inside. Sutton is the father of her children and was recently released from prison, she told police. Sutton punched the victim, she stated. He later got into another altercation with the victim and punched him again. Later, when she woke up, the victim and her vehicle were missing. Another witness told police that later in the night Sutton called and stated he "hurt the victim and took him to the hospital."
Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000.
