A 26-year-old Independence man has been charged with assault for causing physical injury to an Oak Grove police officer after a traffic stop on Interstate 70 in Oak Grove, Jackson County Proseuctor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Jerry D. Davis, dob: 9/24/1992, faces Assault 2nd Degree, a Class B felony, and a misdemeanor count of Resisting a Lawful Detention.*
According to court records filed today, an officer stopped the defendant on Interstate 70 about 5:30 a.m. today, Nov. 30, 2018, after the officer said he observed an expired license plate and a headlight out.. The defendant exited his vehicle and yelled and screamed at the officer. At one point the defendant punched the officer's flashlight back into the officer's face. The officer and defendant struggled, and another officer arrived. But the defendant continued to fight. The officers deployed a taser on the defendant twice until he was handcuffed. When the defendant was escorted to the officer's vehicle, the defendant began to fight again. While in the back seat, he kicked the officer in the face.
Prosecutors asked for a $100,000 10 percent bond.
