An 18-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in connection with shooting three persons, one fatally, on July 20, 2019, in the Independence Avenue area of KC, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Wade Bentley, dob: 6/26/2001, faces Murder 2nd Degree, two counts of the Class A felony of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, one count of the Class B felony of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, one count of the Class E felony of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, four counts of Armed Criminal Action and Possession of a Controlled Substance.*
According to court records filed today, Kansas City police officers responded to the area of the 3700 block of Independence Avenue on a reported shooting. They found one victim, who pointed officers in the direction of Roberts and Askew, where the shooting reportedly took place. Officers located two female victims, one shot and one not wounded, as well as a homicide victim, Leon Robinson. Witnesses told police the shooting started in the 3500 block of Independence Avenue when the suspect was accused of stealing marijuana. Witnesses described him an angry and that he carried a chrome handgun in his waistband moments before he shot Leon Robinson. He continued to shoot, hitting one person in the leg before he fled from the scene.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $500,000 cash.
