A 27-year-old KC man has been charged in connection with a series of robberies Wednesday in Midtown KC, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Derrick M. Sims, dob: 4/12/1989, faces Robbery 1st Degree, Attempted Robbery 1st Degree and two counts of Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records, Kansas City police were responded to reports of armed street robberies in the area of 41st to 43rd, Main to Oak streets, when they saw a the defendant walking west on 41st toward Main Street. He was covered in blood. A search of him uncovered a brown wallet, an iphone and $969 in cash, as well as keys. They also found nearby a vehicle that matched the description of the one used during the robberies. His keys fit the door of the vehicle and unlocked it. One victim had reported to police that he had more than $490 that was taken from him by a man brandishing a handgun in the area of 43rd and McGee. The victim of one of the robberies identified the defendant. In one of the robberies, the robber and his victim struggled over the gun used in the robbery.
Prosecutors have requested a bond of $75,000 cash.
The robberies remain under investigation.
