An Independence man, 26, faces felony charges in connection with the Dec. 16, 2020, fatal shooting of Oriana Starr inside an Independence residence, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Brandon A. McDaniel, dob: 9/21/1994, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records, Independence police responded to the 9900 block of E. 63rd Street in Independence on a reported shooting. The mother of the defendant had called police and reported he had killed his girlfriend, Oriana Starr , on Dec. 16, 2020. They had been arguing when the victim wrapped a cord around his neck and he shot her. Police found the victim on the floor of the apartment. A second witness told police that the defendant told him of the fatal shooting and showed him the firearm he used. The defendant later sold the firearm.
Prosecutors requested a $250,000 bond.
