Concerned about a girl's welfare, Kansas City police followed blood into a man's residence, where he fired a shot at and struggled with police officers before being taken into custody, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Willie T. Wren, dob: 6/27/1983, faces two counts of Assault 1st Degree, two counts of Armed Criminal Action, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.*
According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched Jan. 31, 2021 to the 3300 block of East 60th Street. Witnesses told officers the man was dragging a child back and forth in the street and the child was heard to be crying for help. Surveillance video from the neighborhood showed the man dragging a girl in the yard and on the street. Officers saw a trail of blood to the front door. When they entered the house they saw more of what appeared to be blood. Inside, they heard a girl yell for help. They attempted to contact the defendant and he fired a shot at . He struggled with the officers before he was taken into custody, and one was pushed down the stairs, injuring his elbow and tailbone. The defendant also pointed a handgun at an officer.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $100,000 cash.
