A 51-year-old Independence man faces multiple misdemeanor and a felony charge for soliciting sex with and furnishing pornographic materials to a minor, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Robert C. Cowan Jr., dob: 9/1/1969, faces one felony charge of Patronizing Prostitution with a minor and six misdemeanor counts of Furnishing Pornographic Materials to a Minor.*
According to court records, two teens in Independence were approached by the defendant about sending him pornographic photos. Later, a police detective contacted the defendant, making him believe he was one of the teens. They discussed the possibility of sending him images or videos of sex acts for money. The defendant also sent the pornographic videos to a police detective and he later asked to engage in sex acts, believing it was the juvenile. The juveniles made the defendant aware of their age.
