A 39-year-old Kansas City man was sentenced Tuesday to 20 years in prison for the shooting in July 2020 of Sharon Heifner-Douglas who was riding an ATV in the area of East Red Bridge and Bennington, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
A Jackson County judge sentenced Glenn Darren Rucker, dob: 7/22/1982, to 20 years on his conviction of Murder 2nd Degree and 20 years on his conviction of Armed Criminal Action. The sentences were set to run concurrently.
According to court records, Police found the victim in the roadway on Red Bridge Road in the evening of July 1, 2020. She had been shot multiple times. Witnesses told police that the woman was traveling on Red Bridge on an ATV, with her dog walking along side her in the grass. A SUV pulled along side and fired shots at her. A few days later, Kansas City police officers saw the vehicle and contacted Rucker. He was taken into custody. A handgun was found in the vehicle. An examination of the gun found that shell casings from the homicide scene were fired by that handgun. Detectives also discovered that the defendant called 911 the night of the shooting and stated he had shot a woman on her four-wheeler.
