A 24-year-old Kansas City man has been charged int he fatal stabbing of Alton Hughes on Nov. 28, 2017, outside a city bus, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Malliek D. Haynes, dob: 4/2/1993, faces Murder in the 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched to Independence Avenue and Woodland, where they found a man suffering from a puncture wound. He was soon pronounced dead. Witnesses told police that they observed the suspect, later identified as Malliek D. Haynes, push the victim to the ground, then stand over him and appeared to punch him. Soon after, they saw the victim bleeding. Haynes reportedly stabbed the victim with a folding knife. Video surveillance from the bus captured the incident. It showed the victim walking backwards until he falls and Haynes leaning over the victim. Then a stain can be seen on the front of the victim's shirt.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000 cash.
