A Kansas City man faces multiple felony charges in connection with the fatal shooting Monday of a woman and the injuring of a man in the 300 block of Lawn in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Paul E. Johnson, dob: 1/14/1965, faces Murder 2nd Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, two counts of Armed Criminal Action, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.*
According to court records, Kansas City police were called to a residence in the 300 block of Lawn in Kansas City on a shooting. They found victim Annamarie Becchina at the scene, where she was pronounced deceased. Officers found the suspect at the scene. He told officers where the gun was located and he told them the shooting was an accident. Witnesses told police the defendant had had an argument with a man and got a shotgun from the garage. He was poking it at the man, he told police, when the gun fired, striking the man and the homicide victim. The defendant also acknowledged he was a felon.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000 cash.
