A Jackson County jury has convicted today a Kansas City man in the 2016 fatal shooting of Jacob Bantner in a 63rd Street parking lot, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced this morning.
Fazon K. Swinton, dob: 9/28/1997, was convicted of Murder 2nd Degree, Attempted Robbery 2nd Degree, Armed Criminal Action and Leaving the Scene of a Shooting.
The jury is deliberating a sentencing recommendation now. An update will detail the jury’s recommendation.
Swinton shot Jacob A. Brantner, dob: 1/12/1977, in a parking lot on E. 63rd Street after they had arranged to meet in order for Brantner to sell the defendant a handgun. They wrestled over the gun and the suspect grabbed it and ran away. Both the victim and the suspect then pulled guns and shot at each other. The victim was struck and died from the gunshot wounds.
Jackson County Prosecutors Nichole Erickson and Kate Brubacher prosecuted the case on behalf of the state of Missouri.
