Many concerned citizens called the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office late today and this evening expressing concern social media reports that protesters were being held in detention without access to attorneys or on high bonds. It’s important that these citizens know that the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office does not manage cases of unlawful assembly or protesting. Those cases are handled by the Kansas City Municipal Prosecutor. The prosecutor’s office has no authority or knowledge of the decisions made by that office. If you are concerned about excessive bonds, stipulations not to return to the area of the protest, or other concerns, please contact that office at: (816) 513-6750.
We are concerned, however, about reports of excessive force reported in social media. We strongly encourage those with evidence of excessive force by police officers to share that material with us. Please submit any videos to our Facebook page through messenger.
